Tables piled high with fresh fruits and vegetables, Vancouver Farmers Markets opened its new season at its latest location in Kerrisdale on Saturday.

The market brings together farmers, prepared food vendors and artisans to provide a range of homegrown goods, running through the summer until Oct. 6.

Alongside the produce, shoppers can find specialty meat and poultry, free-range eggs, organic chocolate, honey, flowers, pickles, salad dressings, cheese, bread and other bakery items. Food carts serve up all-day breakfasts and tasty lunch items. Face painters and musicians provide entertainment for young and old alike.

“I’m really happy with the selection of vendors and selection of produce,” VFM operations manager Roberta LaQuaglia said.

“It’s a great place for shoppers since there are less line-ups,” she said, adding that many of the vendors are new farmers who are just starting up their marketing.

Glenda Shale from Richmond’s Nature Village Farms anticipates a good year at this new location and they’ve booked a stall for the whole season.

Find the Kerrisdale market on East Boulevard north of West 41st Avenue beside Point Grey Secondary School. Open Saturdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
