Nancy Richler, Kim Thûy and Russell Wangersky, three of the five authors short-listed for the $50,000 Giller Prize, are coming to the Vancouver Writers Fest this month, October 16 to 21. (Will Ferguson, one of the two other nominees, presented his new book at a Writers Fest event in April).
"We are delighted that three of the five writers short-listed for the Giller prize will be attending our Festival. It is always an honour to give our audiences the opportunity to hear and meet authors who are under consideration for Canada's richest literary prize, along with all the other fine writers who will be with us," said Hal Wake, artistic director of the Festival.
Nancy Richler will be attending two events on Friday, October 19, and Saturday, October 20, according to the press release sent to us by the non-profit charitable organization.
Kim Thûy will be at the events set for Tuesday evening, October 16, and a free adult French-language event at the CBC building in downtown Vancouver on Wednesday evening, October 17.
Wangersky will be appearing at the events scheduled for Wednesday evening, October 17, and Sunday morning, October 21.
Finalists for the last major fiction prize, the Governor-General’s Literary Award, were announced Tuesday morning.
Over six days in October, 100 authors from Canada, the US, Mexico, England, Scotland, France, New Zealand, Australia, Somalia, Pakistan, Italy, China and South Africa, will join thousands of readers at the annual festival. The Writers Fest is set for October 16 to 21 on Granville Island in Vancouver.
Tickets for the Festival are on sale through VancouverTix.com or by calling 604-629-VTIX (604-629-8849). Tickets are also available at the Writers Fest box office, 1398 Cartwright Street. Complete program details are available at www.writersfest.bc.ca.
