Join The Vancouver Observer’s team of award-winning reporters as our environment/politics reporter.
The ideal candidate will be a well-read and well-rounded journalist who possesses exceptional narrative skills and has experience writing in-depth, research-based stories.
The reporter will be expected to pitch original news stories, and write a minimum of 3 original news stories a week. This position is a great opportunity to work closely with and receive mentorship from our writers and editors.
The candidate must monitor local and global news and be plugged into conversations relevant to politics and the environment. The candidate is expected to cultivate sources, and pitch original, high-impact stories. Some experience in multimedia storytelling is a plus, but a strong interest in politics (local, provincial and national) is essential.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
- Continuously seeking new sources and able to pitch original angles to news stories
- Active on social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, etc.)
- Knowledge of HTML and basic online writing/publishing functions
- Familiarity with CP style as well as SEO
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in journalism
