English Premier League Top 5
With the summer drawing to a conclusion, soccer fans around the world can rejoice with the start of the 2010/2011 English Premier League season. Here are my thoughts on who should be the top teams.
Chelsea started their 2010/2011 campaign off with a dominating performance over premier league newboys West Brom winning 6-0. Striker Didier Drogba maintained his top form from last year with a three goals.
2. Manchester United
Manchester United also dominated their first match of the season, putting up three goals and allowing none against Newcastle. Wayne Rooney, their star striker, looked to be off form. Paul Scholes, however, was instrumental for United, setting up 2 of their goals.
Blackpool marked their first ever Premier League appearance with a shocking upset against Wigan. Marlon Harewood, a “Premier League reject”, was fantastic, scoring two goals and giving a performance Blackpool fans will never forget.
4. Aston Villa
Only days after Villa’s boss Martin O’Neil left the club, caretaker Manager Kevin Macdonald led "the Villains" to a impressive 3-0 victory over West Ham. This match was possibly the last match for Captain James Milner who appears to have struck a deal with Manchester City. If Milner departs, the question becomes whether Villa can keep up their early momentum.
The other Manchester club earned a positive result with a draw against Tottenham. The big question before the game was whether Joe Hart or Shay Given would be given the start. Joe Hart was eventually given the nod, and, thankfully for City, he was fantastic in net, giving a heroic performance to preserve a 0-0 tie.
