Rebel fighters seize another Syrian border crossing with Turkey

Rebels seized control of the border crossing of Tal Abyad on the border with Turkey in the province of Raqa following fierce fighting with regime forces which also resulted in the detention of 13 army soldiers. Regime forces retaliated by fiercely bombarding the town and destroying a number of houses.
The rebel fighters had finally withdrawn from the southern part of Damascus after it has been stormed by regime forces backed by tanks and helicopter gunships and whereby the executed more than 60 civilians including 15 more than 15 Palestinians. The fierce bombardment that targeted the provincial towns of Douma, Zabadani, Qudsaya, Moadamiya and Artouz left more than ten civilians dead and many more wounded, besides destroying a number of houses. Regime force also stormed the town of Hejeira among heavy gunfire while fighter jets shelled the towns in the eastern Ghouta district.
Regime troops backed with military tanks and helicopter gunships carried out sweeps and arson in the neighbourhood of Masha Arabeen in Hama city killing at least 15 civilians some of which were burned to death. Meanwhile, eight civilians were killed due to the indiscriminate shelling in the village of Howayja.
The regime’s heavy artillery and fighter jets renewed their bombardment in the neighbourhoods of Haydariya, Sakhour, Masaken Hanano, Sheikh Fares, Kalaseh, Arqoub and Bustan Basha in Aleppo city as well as in its provincial towns of Menbej, Safeeera and the villages surrounding Menneg military airport leaving at least 13 people dead and many more wounded. Scores of civilians were also shot dead by regime forces in the neighbourhoods of Kalaseh, Ameriya, Saladin and Maysaloun.
Regime forces also continued their massive military offensive throughout the country, killing dozens of civilians, wounding hundreds others and forcing thousands of them to flee their homes. They fiercely shelled the old city of Homs as well as its provincial towns of Ghanto, Halmouz, Talbiseh and Qosyar. They shelled the Daraa suburbs of Yadouda and Ghabaghib and the Idlib suburbs of Ma’arrat Naman, Taftanazz, Rami, Ma’arrat Masrin and Zardana. They also bombarded the neighbourhoods of Jbaila, Howayqa, Arfi, Hamidiya, Ardi and Sheikh Yasin in the city of Deir Azzour in addition to its provincial towns of Boukamal and Mohasan.
Regime forces carried out sweeps and arbitrary arrests in the Qunaitera suburbs of Zbeda Gharbiya, Jaba and Um Batna.
The U.S. Treasury Department announced a new round of sanctions that includes the director of Syria's Scientific Studies Research Center, Amr Armanazi and three Iranian airlines, Mahan Air, Yas Air and Iran Air. A Belarus state-owned weapons manufacturer Belvneshpromservice and Syria's Army Supply Bureau were also hit with the sanctions.
