Little Black Dress Soiree to benefit Battered Women’s Support Services

Chantal Hunt

On March 3, 2012, StilettoFit and Help Change My City are co-hosting the LBD Soiree, an event to raise $1000 for Battered Women’s Support Services. I interviewed Chantal Hunt, co-founder of StilettoFit, to learn why she was inspired to help organize the evening.

Chantal Hunt (right) and Alex Kaye (left) teach StilettoFit, a fun new class to teach women how to look, feel, and dance sexy in heels.

Working out of Vancouver and Los Angeles, Hunt is an accomplished professional dancer/choreographer who has worked with musicians such as The Black Eyed PeasShawn Desman, as well as on numerous film and TV shows including "Mirror Mirror" starring Julia Roberts, "Boogie Town" directed by Chris Stokes, and ABC’s "Once Upon A Time" with Ginnifer Goodwin.

Tracy Bains: What is StilettoFit?

Chantal Hunt: StilettoFit is a sassy way to get fit, while learning the hottest new dance moves. Women from all backgrounds, shapes and experiences, have a great time at our class, getting a full body workout and embracing themselves as powerful, confident women. We provide a comfortable place for women to gather, by creating a non-judgmental atmosphere. We want them strutting out that door feeling empowered.

TB: Who typically takes the class?

CH: Women from all ages come to the class — from teenagers to seniors. The eldest woman who has attended a class was 62, and she loved it. I always make sure to acknowledge and support each lady in class, especially if I see them falling behind or struggling with heels. It’s not about how fit you are, or how much choreography you can pick up, the class is meant to make women feel good about themselves.

TB: Why do most participants choose to take a StilettoFit class?

CH: Most participants who attend the classes are ready for a change from the typical fitness class. Our approach is new, fresh and fun — every woman likes to feel sexy.

TB: How did you get involved as co-host of LBD Soiree?

CH: We had the privilege of working with Help Change My Citya community of young professionals on a mission to make giving (to the community) fun and sexy, at StilettoFit’s grand opening last fall. Since they share our philosophy, we decided to partner once again to host LBD Soiree, an evening of live performances by StilettoFit experts, Stillettoettes, and the Burlesque Beauties. The event will raise funds to support the Battered Women’s Support Services (BWSS).

We want everyone to have a terrific time at the Fortune Sound Club, a fantastic venue, and enjoy the entertainment while supporting a great organization.

TB: Why did you want to participate in this cause?

CH: With International Women’s Day coming up on March 8, we wanted to highlight the work of Battered Women’s Support Services, an organization that helps the most vulnerable women in our community. I'm proud to support such a great organization and we want our LBD Soiree guests to know that they can make a difference too.

Everyone needs help and support in one way or another, and I think violence against women is a huge issue that needs to be addressed.

TB: How will the event’s proceeds help the Battered Women’s Support Services?

CH: We’ve set a modest goal to raise $1000 for BWSS. We’re asking for a minimum $10 donation at the door — what we hope is a very affordable contribution that keeps the event open and accessible. We’re confident that BWSS knows best how to allocate the funds raised to assist the women who turn to them for help.
