Cool Ranch Doritos Locos Tacos Announced on Vine: Coming Soon to Canada?

Taco Bell Cool Ranch Doritos Locos Tacos. A very proper noun. Clearly designed to combat the munchies. Not yet available in Canada.

Taco Bell Uses Vine to announce Cool Ranch Doritos Locos Tacos

Why spend millions on a television ad campaign when you can generate six seconds of video for free, and send it out via the hottest new iPhone app?

The folks at Taco Bell were thinking the same thing. Taco Bell used Vine to create a simple stop-motion ad announcing the launch date for the highly-anticipated (due to the munchies, one presumes) Cool Ranch Doritos Locos Tacos.

Here is the Cool Ranch Doritos Locos Tacos announcement video. I would really like to believe that it was made by a few stoned interns. Give those folks a full-time job.

Taco Bell's Vine video was backed up with a Doritos Locos Tacos press release:

“There has been enormous interest in the new Cool Ranch flavor of Doritos Locos Tacos and people are wondering why it took so long,” said Greg Creed, chief executive officer, Taco Bell Corp. “Originally we had planned to launch the Cool Ranch flavor in the same year as the introduction of Doritos Locos Tacos. However, the demand for Nacho Cheese Doritos Locos Tacos was so strong that we worked closely with our partner Frito-Lay to increase our capacity and meet the needs of both Doritos Cool Ranch and Nacho Cheese fans.”

When Will Canada Get Doritos Locos Tacos?

What you need to know about the new Frankentaco:

  • Taco Bell's Cool Ranch Doritos Locos Tacos (quite the proper noun) are coming March 7, 2013 to the USA. Mark it on your calendar, junk-food taco fans.
  • There is no Canadian release date for the Cool Ranch Doritos Locos Tacos. Indeed, you can't even get the regular Doritos Tacos Locos up here in Canada. Pressure Taco Bell Canada to make it happen, if you're motivated enough.
  • No, Vine is not yet available for Android, but you can watch Vine videos with Vine Flow. The Vine experience on Twitter's own site and app is hinky at best.
  • Yes, the adjective should come after the noun, i.e. "Doritos Tacos Locos". Take it up with Taco Bell.

A quick note to Taco Bell: look, what has to happen for the Frozen North to get Doritos Locos Tacos? Here in British Columbia, we are willing to consider (with caveats, provisos, and quid pro quo's) handing over a few beavertails.

While not personally a fan of Taco Bell (or any Southwestern restaurant that uses hard taco shells), my inner sense of order is messed up by this international junk-food asymmetry. It needs to be rectified. So, Taco Bell, give Canada the Doritos Locos Tacos... pronto.
