Shooting Overnight, Hit and Run Update, Collision

A 28-year-old man is in hospital with gunshot wounds after a shooting in the 2000 block of W.10th Avenue. Several 911 calls reported shots fired and police flooded the area. They found the victim in the southwest corner of the IGA parking lot, conscious and moving.

An extensive area search was done, and search and canvas teams are back at the scene today combing for evidence. The shooting is believed to be targeted, but it’s too soon in the investigation to determine if it was gang related.

The victim is in stable condition in hospital and is uncooperative with police.

The 18-year-old driver arrested in the fatal hit and run that killed two pedestrians is facing a number of possible charges:

· fail to remain at the scene of an accident – two counts
· dangerous driving causing death
· impaired driving causing death
· driving over .08

When charges are confirmed, his name will be released.

The families of the victims have asked for privacy while they grieve.

An 84 year old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after a collision with an unmarked police car. He was driving eastbound on 45th Avenue and turning left onto Boundary. The police car was southbound on Boundary and travelling through the intersection at 45th Avenue on a flashing green.

The two on-duty members were travelling from one location to another and were not injured in the collision.

“We want the family to know that we are deeply concerned for their loved one and our thoughts are with them,” says Constable Jana McGuinness.

Investigators are looking into all the possible factors surrounding the crash, including speed, road conditions, visibility and intersection controls.
