As Northern Gateway pipeline hearings return to Smithers, community rallies for tar sands protest
A new set of Northern Gateway Joint Review Panel hearings in Smithers, BC brought out hundreds of community members on Monday for a rally.

As a new series of community hearings began regarding the Enbridge Northern Gateway pipeline yesterday, residents in the Northern BC town of Smithers had their signs and songs at the ready.
According to Pat Moss, coordinator of Smithers-based group Friends of Wild Salmon, community members gathered on Monday for a rally and march to the hearing venue. Passionate songs from the local Raging Grannies were followed by speeches from Wet'suwet'en leaders, local politicians and concerned high school students.
Over 130 people are scheduled to speak in hearings over the next week, with two additional days scheduled for further discussion if required.
