Today is the 14th anniversary of Princess Diana's untimely death after she and her Egyptian boyfriend, Dodi Fayed, died in a car crash in the Pont de l’Alma underpass in Paris.
The car's driver, Henri Paul, and Fayed died immediately, while Diana was rushed to a hospital and died due to injuries.
Although aggressive paparazzi were initially blamed for the deaths, an investigation had revealed that the driver was driving under the influence and lost control of the vehicle.
With the fairy-tale marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton still fresh in mind, people still lamented the death of Lady Di, who would be 50 today if she were still alive:
Conspiracies continue to swirl around the mysterious death. In a recently released book, The Untold Story, novelist Monica Ali speculates about what Lady Diana would be like if she had in fact survived the crash, changed her name and reincarnated herself as "Lydia" in sleeply suburban America.
