Police Announce Charges in Heart Attack Marcher Arrests and Olympics Resistance Network Member Gives His Account of Being Surrounded by Riot Police
Contrary to reports from the police department yesterday, at least one of the "Black Bloc" protesters was local. Twenty-three year old Charlotte Christine Hannah of Vancouver was charged with assaulting a peace officer today, Vancouver Police have announced.
Other charges relating to the Heart Attack March protest yesterday in downtown Vancouver Saturday were: twenty-two year old Daniel Frederick Myers from Shoreline, Washington has been charged with possession of a dangerous weapon and possession of a prohibited weapon. Myers is being detained relating to an immigration matter.
Eighteen year old Willow Violet Louise Riley was also charged with assaulting a peace officer.
Police said that two other men and two women in their late 20s were taken to jail for breach of the peace and released Saturday evening.
Joseph Jones spent much of the day yesterday working with the Olympics Resistance Network's legal team and said he was present at multiple situations throughout downtown Vancouver.
"My experiences included being with about 30 persons who were surrounded from at least two directions by a double row or more of riot police on the east sidewalk on Seymour just south of Georgia. At 5:18 pm an officer declared breach of the peace. Repeated questions about whether we were being detained were met with 'Wait.'
"Eventually those surrounded were allowed to continue walking along the sidewalk."
