The Writer's Studio Launches emerge at VIWF

SFU’s Writer’s Studio Launch emerge at the Vancouver International Writer’s Festival

A group of emerging Vancouver writers will be launching an anthology of their work at the Vancouver International Writers & Readers Festival on Sunday, October 24th.

The anthology, emerge, is published by The Writer’s Studio, a department of SFU’s Writing and Publishing Program. Participants in the award-winning creative writing program – which is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year – work with mentors and working writers to develop their talent and become active members of Vancouver’s local literary community.

“Writing is a deeply solitary act, and yet we need the company of other writers,” says program director Betsy Warland, who has just launched Breathing the Page: Reading the Act of Writing. In the studio program, people representing a wide range of voices and experiences come together to support each other’s development as writers.

The anthology, emerge, contains works of fiction, poetry and creative non-fiction, and at its launch the authors will give short readings that hint at the range of styles to be found between the book’s covers.

Tickets can be purchased by calling Vancouver Tix at 604 629-8849, or at For more information about The Writer’s Studio at SFU, visit
