Vancouver Art Attack ~ Paint Your 'Art Out

On September 12th/2013, The Waterfall building will host  “Vancouver Art Attack” where 20 of Vancouver’s elite artists will “paint their art out” for 4 hours, creating auctionable masterpieces; to be auctioned off at a minimum bid of $1000.00. During the live portion of this event (12-4pm), students from Emily Carr, UBC, SFU Langara, Kwantlen and other Art programs will benefit from participating in live networking while having an educational experience listening to key speakers from within the art world; such as curators, gallery owners and successful local and international artists. There will also be other forms of entertainment, a cash bar and door prizes.

Later in the evening, (7-11pm) the event will be open to a limited number of guests, including Art collectors. The finished Art will be open for bidding via a live curated auction. The purpose of this event is to bridge the gap between student, emerging artist and art collector, while raising money for the Hive’s Art program and Non-profit Social Enterprise Incubator. The Lower Mainland provides a surprising lack of promotional venues and even less, public education regarding the importance of supporting the arts .

The Event founders, Kirsten Larsen and Patricia Mongey are also passionate about working with organisations that minimize waste either through consumption or misuse of resources, which is why they believe in supporting HiVE Vancouver.  The HiVE is a Gastown based, non-profit, co-working space that attracts a vast diversity of entrepreneurs and small businesses all focused on some aspect of sustainability.  The HiVE is developing a Non-Profit Incubator Program which plans, twice per year, to take 5 or 6 new non-profit organisations and put them through the equivalent of business school; providing them a better chance of actually fulfilling their mandate.  The HiVE also supports the arts by hosting a new local artist every quarter and hanging their art throughout the 9000 sq ft space. As a non-profit, they are in need of funds to upgrade the lighting and fixtures for properly displaying the artwork and providing professional showings.

Joseph MacKinnon, Waterfall Building owner and art aficionado, has graciously provided the space for “Art Attack” and is hopeful of its success in creating a platform to promote local (and possibly not-so-local artists) on an ongoing basis. He is eager to have the Waterfall Building assist in creating that unique brand of social enterprise.
