Vancouver’s New Year’s Eve Celebration Society has secured nearly $400,000 in funding for a free party on Dec. 31 featuring live music and a fireworks display over Burrard Inlet.

Funding for the NYE party was secured through a combination of private, public and in-kind sponsorship to support the first all-ages, free community New Year’s Eve event in Vancouver in more than a decade. A further $125,000 was kicked in by the City of Vancouver towards policing, safety personnel, and equipment for the event.

“We are elated to see both Vancouver’s private and public sectors coming together to support a shared vision for a free, all-ages community event,” said Charles Gauthier, president of Vancouver’s New Year’s Eve Celebration Society, a not-for-profit community organization putting on the event.

Local news, lifestyle and entertainment website Vancity Buzz, which founded the NYE Celebration Society, today released a video with Anti-Social Media Solutions, featuring local celebrities such as Kirk McLean, Vikram Vij and Chin Injeti also relaying their support for the celebration, which is scheduled to take place in front of Canada Place, from 6:00 pm to 12:20 am on Dec. 31.

“Cultural events like these define our city and give residents of all ages and backgrounds a reason to come together as a community,” said Gauthier.

A limited number of tickets for the CF Pacific Centre Viewing Lounge were released on Nov. 20 today for residents seeking a more premium experience. The all-ages licensed ticketed area will feature a comfortable lounge atmosphere, gourmet food trucks, private washrooms, and an audio simulcast of band performances and the fireworks soundtrack. Guests will also enjoy in-out privileges.

“When the opportunity arose to help make this New Year’s Eve celebration happen we had to get involved,” Matt Meehan, senior vice president, planning at Concord Pacific. “Being part of the community and supporting events that bring people together is an important part of the work we do.”

Made up of a collaborative group of local businesses and associations, the Vancouver New Year’s Eve Celebration Society includes representatives from Vancity Buzz, the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association, Port Metro Vancouver, Vancouver Convention Centre, Tourism Vancouver, Starbucks Coffee, Vanterre Projects, Boughton Law Corporation and BDO Canada. Media partners are Vancity Buzz, Global BC, Vancouver 24 Hours, 102.7 The Peak FM, and Brix Media Co. The Society will also be working closely with the City to ensure a successful NYE party.
