COPE's Meena Wong remained a distant third the whole evening, and no COPE councillors were elected to council, park board or school board.  Despite that, she thanked supporters for a spirited campaign with its policies, like on empty condos, that seemed to get a lot of media attention.

"We put COPE back on the political map in Vancouver," said Wong, in her concession speech.

Vision supporter Doug Gook was just grateful more right-of-center candidates were not elected.

"Vancouver can take a big sigh of relief, and hopefully get on with the kind of progressive agenda, and hopefully in an even more aggressive way," said Gook at the celebration gathering.

He added, other victories in pipeline-and-tanker affected cities, such as Victoria and Burnaby with progressive mayors, is a step in the right direction.

Long-time Vision member Brenda Ireland pumped her fists high when Vision's success seemed assured.

"Well I'm feeling pretty darn confident.  I was scared before [this night]. "

"But I think some of the negative aspects of the campaign [recently] kind of shifted support over to Vision," said Ireland.
