Robertson re-elected as Mayor of Vancouver (VIDEO)
Vision elected one less councillor, and have fewer representatives on the Park Board and School Boards.
"Four more years!" "Four more years!" chanted Vision supporters Saturday night as Gregor Robertson took to the stage to accept becoming Vancouver's newly elected mayor -- his third term.
"I am so humbled and honoured to be re-elected as your mayor."
"We will continue to build a green, inclusive and vibrant city together," said Robertson.
In his speech, the 50-year-old who frequently bikes to City Hall acknowledged the "ambitious" goals set out six years ago were high, and not always achieved.
"We took on the the most important issues of our time: homelessness, climate change, affordability."
"I talked with thousands of voters over the last months.... I've also heard loud and clear that we can do better, and we will over the next four years."
Unofficially, Vision's elected councillors are: Heather Deal, Kerry Jang, Andrea Reimer, Raymond Louie, Tim Stevenson and Geoff Meggs. Defeated was Councillor Tony Tang.
The Vision leader also thanked councillor candidate Niki Sharma who was not elected, despite being a regular at Robertson's side at media events.
There were also Vision losses off council.
"We also have a wider diversity of opinions on our Vancouver Park Board and School Boards," said Robertson.
Park Board Commissioner Trevor Loke for example, was unseated by a margin of 1,400 votes at last count. Vision's park board representatives plunged from five to one.
Non-Partisan Association mayoral candidate Kirk LaPointe trailed Robertson by about 10,000 votes near the end of the night. Speaking at his own party's gathering, he said he called Robertson to congratulate him.
"I think the mayor is a good role model," said LaPointe.
"We were up against a tremendous machine."
"I'm proud of our campaign...We were a party that lost its mojo these last few years. And I think we've re-entered the conversation," he added.
Unofficially, three NPA councillors were elected, up from two: George Affleck, Elizabeth Ball, Melissa De Genova.
