Man steals purse, then taxi cab in Yaletown, makes getaway to Fairview

A 25-year-old man who had barricaded himelf in an apartment on West 12th Avenue near Ash Street has been taken into custody.

At about 9:30 last night, the man allegedly robbed a woman of her purse and then stole a taxi cab to make his getaway. The robbery took place in Yaletown near Davie Street and Pacific. Police caught up with the suspect shortly after at the apartment on west 12th.

All efforts were made to ensure the safety of others living in the building as negotiators convinced the man to surrender to officers and bring this matter to a peaceful conclusion, police say.
