Rally against pipelines hits Fort Langley on April 11
“This is Our Home”, a peaceful march and rally to protect the natural environment against pipeline development, will be coming to the community of Fort Langley on April 11. The rally coincides with the Provincial Premier’s meeting in Quebec to discuss climate change.
Susan Davidson, one of the organizers from the PIPE UP Network said: "We are joining with the many people who are marching in Quebec on that same day who are also concerned that the National Energy Board will not even let us talk about climate change when we discuss pipeline projects.”
The organizers, including artist and activist Brandon Gabriel, expect hundreds of participants in this family friendly rally beginning with a march from at the Kwantlen Sports Field to the Fort Langley Community Hall at 12:30.
Drumming and speeches will follow the march at 2 p.m. Carleen Thomas, the Sacred Trust Initiative and Tsleil-Waututh First Nation, Ben West, Tanker Free BC, and Lynne Quarmby, Simon Fraser University science professor and a public face of the Burnaby Mountain protests in 2014 will join with local First Nations, landowners, and union leaders.
"We're not just marching for our own communities," Davidson added, "but for all people whose water is polluted by tar sands extraction, for those who are losing their homes with sea level rise, and for the people not yet born who will bear the brunt of our decisions.”
"In February, we found out that Kinder Morgan was test drilling in unceded Kwantlen Nation territory," said Kwantlen artist Brandon Gabriel. "With just two days notice, we had about 80 people come together to protest Kinder Morgan's actions. The Trans Mountain Pipeline proposal has brought people together to protect our life-giving waterways from oil spills, tanker traffic, and devastating climate change.”
The Kwantlen Nation, PIPE UP Network, Kwantlen Student Association, Kwantlen Public Interest Research Group and Langley community members invite all to join in.
