Canadians more stressed about their finances: survey

A new survey shows Canadians are increasingly worried about money -- especially women and young adults.

Over a third of Canadians feel more stressed about their finances now than a year ago, according to a new study commissioned by Sun Life Financial.

Results released Wednesday found that 36 per cent of respondents are more worried about money than they were last year, including 43 per cent of women and 53 per cent of Canadians between the ages of 18 and 34.

Despite a reported scaleback in spending during the Christmas shopping season, other information released by Statistics Canada showed an increase in monthly retail sales for October.

The survey -- the "Canadian Financial Checkup" -- was conducted by Ipsos Reid and asked over 2,136 people about their personal finances, careers and their views on the economy as the year comes to a close.
