Casual summer dining at affordable prices: Vancouver restaurants
Summer days are long and warm, and at the end of the day, sometimes you just don’t feel like cooking. Well no worries, here are a couple great places where you can grab a meal for under $15 without making a reservation.
If you can’t decide whether you want burgers, chicken, or ribs, check out White Spot’s new menu. Their new crispy buttermilk chicken is a great, flavourful choice for under $15 and includes some tasty sides. If you really can’t make up your mind between chicken and ribs, for just extra three dollars, you can get a rack of baby back ribs to enjoy. While their ribs are merely okay, White Spot’s selection of sauces makes up for it. The tasty Tennessee Whiskey, a BBQ chipotle with a kick of Jack Daniels, was my favourite. Don’t forget to grab some dessert at the end if you can still fit it in. The blueberry pie is the current summer special, but my favourite was the Dutch Apple Tart. The creamy toffee sauce was what made the pie really special. The personal-sized pie was just enough to satisfy my dessert craving.
While White Spot has some great burgers, it’s Romer’s Burger Bar you want to check if you’ve got a burger craving. For anywhere from $9 to $14 you can get a great, hearty, flavourful burger. My favourite is still the standard and for $9, it’s a great deal for such a fresh, filling burger. For dessert, make sure you grab a plate of their drunken doughnuts. These tasty deep-fried bites come with three alcohol infused dipping sauces and are perfect for sharing.
For some tasty, filling and cheap fish and chips, check out the Sea House Fish and Chips located on 3003 Kingsway. You can get two large pieces of cod and a hearty serving of chips for just $6.25. I also tried their new wild sockeye salmon burger for $5.95 and although I was wary about it at first, the salmon patty was actually quite juicy and tasty without the slightest hint of freezer burn. I would definitely order it again. If fish isn’t your thing, they’ve also got a burger and fries combo for $3.95, a classic ham and cheese sandwich, calamari or deep-fried prawns and scallops.
