Holiday make-up guide: 5 eye-catching looks

This season it's all about the allure of your eyes.

Cat Call

No, it's not that one. But the drama of this look will certainly draw much attention to your peepers.

Rock a fierce cat eye this season and prepare to amp up the drama.

Start from the inner corner of your eyes, gradually thickening the line as you reach the outer corner. To brighten up this look, apply a thin strip of glitter on top or over your cat eye.

Let your eyes be the centre of attention and opt for minimal make-up for the rest of your face.

Finish off with soft pink lips or a coral gloss.

VO tip: For those of you who are a little shaky when it comes to applying your eyeliner, this video provides a foolproof method that will guarantee a perfect cat eye.

Seeing Graphics

Lady Gaga's music video for "Judas" may have received controversy for using a biblical storyline, but it's her awesome graphic eye that should have garnered much attention.

Bold and edgy, this graphic eye makeup is an alternative to the traditional cat eye.

Now don't be intimidated by this look - it doesn't have to venture onto Gaga territory. You can tone down the crazy by opting for a look like this instead.

Simply line your upper and lower lash line with black liquid liner. Extend the liner past the outer corner of your eyes, but instead of connecting it like you would for a cat eye, leave a space in between.

Keep in mind that the two lines should be straight and not winged out - it should look like two equal signs.

If you're feeling daring, extend the liner for a sloping cat eye for a funky and rebellious vibe.

The Smoke Effect

Apply an eye primer (face primer works as well) which provides lasting power to your eye makeup.

Start off by applying white eyeshadow from the inner corner of your eyes and extending it across your lids.

Remember to blend well - the shadow shouldn't look like one block or strip of colour.

Sweep a grey shadow over your lid, blending it into your crease up and outward. Take a blending brush and lightly dip it into black eyeshadow.

Instead of applying it all across your lid, blend it from the outer corner to the and up towards your crease.

Finish off with a black liner and nude lips.

Glamour Gal

When in doubt, red lips never fail.

To spruce up this old Hollywood look, opt for a neutral smokey eye before applying your winged liner.

Begin by sweeping gold eyeshadow from the inner corner of your eyes, extending it all across your lid. Next, apply a champagne shade to the middle of your lid, gradually blending towards the outer lid and continuing up towards the crease.

Apply a soft brown shade to the outer corner of your eyes. Blend upwards to the crease and downwards, creating an almost winged out look. (Don't apply too much brown to your eyes, it should look soft).

Line your eyes by following the "Cat Call" section. Add some individual lashes for a more natural look, followed by two coats of mascara.

Finish off with a swipe of matte red lipstick.

VO tip: Apply liner to your top water line for lasting effect and definition. It's a cool trick that opens up your eyes and gives it a dramatic look.

Golden Girl

Recreate this eye makeup inspired by Emma Watson at the New York premiere of Harry Potter.

If you're intimidated by this ultra glam look, downplay its intensity by dusting a brown eyeshadow at the centre of your lids before applying black eyeshadow.

The finished look is still dramatic, but more toned down then Emma Watson's high fashion look. For lasting effect, apply a cream shadow to your lower lash line.

Finish off with nude lips and prepare to turn heads at your next rendezvous.

Old Hollywood Glam is always a classic look, but why not be the "Golden Girl" for the night? Or instead of opting for a traditional cat eye, experiment with that edgy, graphic eye for something completely different.

With countless parties under your belt, be bold and daring by experimenting with different makeup looks.
