Vancouver School Board Collaborates with Rain City Chronicles on an Evening of Public School Story Telling

Tales from Public School

The Vancouver School Board is hosting two special evenings of storytelling and song about public education titled Tales From Public School. The events are in partnership with Vancouver storytelling society Rain City Chronicles.

“There are countless incredible stories taking place in our schools every day,” says Patti Bacchus, Chairperson of the Vancouver School Board. “These two evenings give us an opportunity to invite the public into our learning communities and celebrate these amazing stories and experiences.”

Tales from Public School features a speakers list of some of Vancouver’s most dynamic and unique personalities. Stories presented will include quirky, inspiring and humorous tales. All the stories will be unique, entertaining and true.

“Rain City Chronicles celebrates the people and spaces that make Vancouver truly special,” says Lizzy Karp, Producer and Host of Rain City Chronicles.  “Exploring the stories of the Vancouver School Board’s robust, diverse community is a highlight for us. Having the show inside two historical schools is a cherry on top!”

Catering for the event is being coordinated by Winner Winner and chef Ken Tsui. Dishes will be inspired by the traditional school cafeteria meal. Karp says the pre-show meal will tell a story in itself through food by playfully elevating some of the classics found this side of a plastic tray. While the menu is being planned by professional chefs, local students from Templeton’s foods program will also be participating in the preparation of some of the signature dishes.

“Our guests are bound to fondly remember some childhood cafeteria memories after tasting some of these dishes,” says Karp.

Anyone interested in attending can purchase a package meal with their Rain City Chronicles ticket for $20. Individual dishes will also be available on the night of the event.

Ten percent of the ticket sale profits will go to programs that support Strathcona Elementary and Templeton Secondary’s most vulnerable learners.
