Kino Cafe --a small neighbourhood coffee house next to the historic Park Movie Theatre hosting local artist and flamenco-- will be playing latin rhythms and Spanish folk in Ode to Summer at 8.30 p.m.
Barcelona singer Ana Elia, Colombian guitarist Aquizamin -- trained in classical music as well as Jazz and Latin rhythms -- with the collaboration of Colombian percussionist Daniel Ruiz will be on the stage performing Latin cover and self-written songs. They welcome everyone to come and celebrate that regardless the rainy day summer is here. This evening’s cover is $5.
Barcelona singer settled in Vancouver Ana Elia has been performing in Vancouver for over three years after five years of musical background in her home city. Aquizamin is a professional guitarist from Colombia trained in classical music as well as Jazz and Latin rhythms. Their repertoire goes from copla -- a Spanish folkloric musical style deriving from a poetic form --- flamenco, Latin music and Spanish and English pop songs (especially classics from the 50s and 60s). The duo has been playing together in Vancouver for over a year at different venues such as Kino Cafe, Calabash Bistro, Branas Grill, and UBC.
Here is a taste of what to expect tonight.
Kino Cafe started in 1987 seeking a venue to showcase the talents of local artist and a growing flamenco community in Vancouver. At Kino Cafe Flamenco Tapas Bar you can enjoy every night the passion of flamenco music in a European bistro atmosphere while trying Spanish food, such as “patatas bravas” or meatballs “albondigas”.
