Heartbreaking, inspiring and nerve-wracking.

Those are the only words that come to mind after viewing clips of a The Square, an Academy-nominated documentary directed by Egyptian film director Jehane Noujaim and co-produced by anti-war activist and CodePink founder Jodie Evans.

Three years ago today, Egyptians began gathering in Tahrir Square, Cairo, to demand what once seemed impossible: the removal of dictator Hosni Mubarak, who had ruled the influential Arab nation for over 30 years.

The film takes viewers inside the violence and chaotic political situation following the Tahrir Square protests. Why did the formerly banned Muslim Brotherhood rise to power after Mubarak's departure? Why is the country still rocked by protests? Anyone wanting to an in-depth view of Egypt's current situation should view this film (viewable on Netflix), especially since it reportedly won't be screened in Egyptian theatres.
