Alexander Francis Gammie: Burnaby coroners confirm identity of 1975 cold case
BC Coroners Service confirms identity of 1975 cold case. Though Alexander Francis Gammie died at age 22, his remains would take decades to identify.
The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a male
found deceased in Vancouver in 1975.
After an exhaustive post-mortem investigation and with assistance from
Vancouver Police Missing Persons Unit and Kamloops RCMP Missing Persons
Unit, the man was determined to be Alexander Francis Gammie.
Mr. Gammie, aged 22, was reported missing to Kamloops RCMP in May of
1975. His body was recovered in Vancouver shortly thereafter, and
transported to Saint Pauls Hospital for further forensic examination. The
body remained unidentified, even after extensive efforts by police and
coroners.
The identification was made possible by modern forensic analysis, in
combination with the application of an enhanced identification model
developed locally by the Identification and Disaster Response Unit of the
BC Coroners Service.
The family of Mr. Gammie has been notified of his death; on their behalf,
the Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this
difficult time.
