Victory Square Block Party: celebrating with a social cause
Since 2004, the Victory Square Block Party by Megaphone magazine has been a “nice way to say goodbye to the summer” on Labour Day Weekend and an opportunity for people to connect with their community and enjoy an afternoon with local talent -- live music, comedy -- as well as helping others in need. The best of all? It’s free.
“It’s a way to make the city more vibrant, more fun, more accessible and it’s also a way to make a difference,” said Megaphone’s executive director, Sean Condon over the phone to The Vancouver Observer. The party will run at Victory Square on Cambie and West Hastings from 2 pm to 9 pm.
Here are more details on the activity from Megaphone's press release:
Megaphone is once again extremely proud to present the Victory Square Block Party -- a free event that celebrates both community and the city’s local music scene.
The annual event at Victory Square Park (Cambie and Hastings) has become a hallmark of the Labour Day weekend and takes place this year on Sunday, September 4th. With seven local bands, DJs and comedians, the Block Party promises to showcase some of the city’s best musical talent while helping support a good cause.
Local talent aficionados have a great lineup to look forward this year with such acts as Sun Wizard, Hot Panda, B-Lines and Bleating Hearts. There will also be DJ sets from Blood Diamonds and Teen Daze and comedy from Pump Trolley Comedy.
The Victory Square Block Party promises to be a great party and an awesome last blast of summer that will support the great work Megaphone does across Vancouver.
