Gawker's Seth Abramovitch canned over racial slur about Kanye West
Kanye West's stream of mind-boggling tweets about apples, ideas, DONDA, Michael Jackson, Wall Street/London riots, his mother, Paris prompted many humorous jabs from in the online world.
But when Canadian comedy writer Seth Abramovitch blogged about West's eye-crossing messages on Gawker early Thursday, he got canned by his employer. Gawker Media gave him the pink slip for using a racial slur in a post about the hip-hop star.
How could he be so Heartless?
One of the 140-character boxes introduced West's new design company named "DONDA," after his late mother, a "think-tank" which West described as "a creative space to bounce dreams and ideas." In his post, Abramovitch joked that DONDA was an acronym that included the slur -- guess which one.
"I now realize you can never really justify using any version of the N-word, even in a joke,'' Abramovitch said in an email, according to the Canadian Press.
The former writer's assistant for the hit TV series Will and Grace has since apologized, acknowledging that the joke "has offended many people.'' In an email Friday, he said he "felt terribly (that) people took it as an ethnic slur directed at any African-American.''
"I was just trying to quote something Kanye himself would say and really used poor judgment in doing so,'' he said.
Welcome To Heartbreak.
