Top 20 Dorothys announced for CBC's "Over the Rainbow" live competition series

Earlier this month, CBC launched anationwide call-out for Dorothy to appear on CBC Television’s "Over the Rainbow" and star in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Canadian production of The Wizard of Oz.

This week, Canada's top 20 aspiring Dorothys were announced and for them the dream they dared to dream is now just a shoe-click away from becoming a reality.

But the ruby slippers can't rest yet.

The top 20 starlets are to take part in more competitions over the summer in the hopes of securing one of 10 finalist spots in CBC Television’s upcoming live competition series in the fall.

Here are Canada’s top 20 Dorothys:

1. Malindi Ayienga, Etobicoke, ON
2. Michelle Bouey, Charlottetown, PEI
3. AJ Bridel, Kitchener, ON
4. Alessandra Cannito, Toronto, ON
5. Rebecca Codas, Toronto, ON
6. Sarah Forestieri, Nobleton, ON
7. Colleen Furlan, Winnipeg, MB
8. Julia Gartha, Unionville, ON
9. Jennifer Gillis, Coquitlam, B.C.
10. Cassandra Hodgins, London, ON
11. Stephanie La Rochelle, Ottawa, ON

17. Christie Stewart, Vernon, BC
18. Michelle Thibodeau, Moncton, NB
19. Kelsey Verzotti, Calgary, AB
20. Danielle Wade, La Salle, ON

Starting in September, host Daryn Jones will introduce the 10 finalists who will compete live on the Over the Rainbow Sunday nights on CBC Television, singing a mixture of Broadway and pop songs each week. Then, in half-hour results episodes on Monday nights, the bottom two Dorothys (as determined by an online public vote) will face-off and one participant will be saved from elimination by the judges. The competition will culminate in a showdown between the final three, with Lord Lloyd Webber himself in attendance, and Canada choosing the winner. Auditions for Dorothy's loyal canine pal Toto will be held at Woofstock, North America’s largest dog festival on Saturday, June 9. Canadian production of The Wizard of Oz opens at the Ed Mirvish Theatre in Toronto this December.
