30 FOR 30 helps raise funds for Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity Booth at 30 FOR 30

This year, Keith Roy from Macdonald Realty Ltd. brought a whole new meaning to 30 for 30, a large-scale networking party for local professionals. While most organizers would be planning lavish parties and celebrations, Roy decided to give back to the community and pledged to raise $30,000 for Habitat for Humanity. In order to achieve this goal, he decided to host a charity event.

Hosted by TV personalities Mike Eckford and Fiona Forbes, this networking event attracted the likes of young Vancouver professionals, Mayor Gregor Robertson and others in the political community. This charity event was held at the Vancouver Art Gallery on Thursday evening and generously sponsored by Sumac Ridge, CircusWest, and Pacifico.

30 FOR 30 was well attended and packed with entertainment. A combination of juggling and acrobatic acts by CircusWest amused the bighearted guests while Sumac Ridge served their 30th anniversary sparkling wine. Near the end of the evening, winners of the silent auction took home items ranging from a signed Trevor Linden jersey, to personal training session, to chocolate gift baskets, all of which benefited Habitat for Humanity.

This non-profit organization mobilizes volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting home ownership as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty. Homes are built through the donation of materials, land, money, and labour.

Those with lower income are given the opportunity to purchase a home at cost (financed by a no-interest mortgage). For more information please visit www.vancouverhabitat.bc.ca.
