Gastown's Gentille Allouette exudes whimsical charm

Walking into Gentille Alouette is like walking into a bizarre alternate shopping dimension. Its ambiance is all-encompassing, and once you cross the threshold you will never be short of eye candy.

Eclectic adornments line the walls, glass cages hold charming jewellery pieces, and a variety of 19th century inspired hats greet you at the door. In every corner of the store, there is something unusual hoping to catch your eye and visiting the boutique is a charming experience without even trying on the pretty clothing.

The quaint girly space is former stylist Eliza Lau’s creative baby. It's a Gastown gem -- one customer describes the ambiance as "super neat" as she walks through the door.

Purposefully placed in interesting Gastown, opening a boutique was always a dream of Lau’s, who has styled for publications such as People Magazine and Vancouver Magazine, along with an extensive resume in film wardrobe (Scary Movie 3 and The Fantastic Four are just some of the major blockbuster films she has worked on). This diverse and experienced background in fashion has given Lau a keen eye for buying, and she doesn’t shy away from picking out bold and unconventional pieces.

The boutique houses a selection of fashions and jewellery from designers found both locally and abroad, including a few pieces from Lau herself who specializes in fibre arts. Most items are a combination of quirk and feminine charm with fun detailing. Girly girls everywhere can rejoice.
