Thank you, Canada

I came to Canada almost 10 years ago, 4 1/2 months pregnant, with my 5 year old in tow. At the border I explained we had just left Manhattan, to get away from the smoke and dust. This year I'm going to  become a Canadian citizen. Ten years and so much has happened in my life, so much has happened in Canada, and the world.

On the eve of the 10th anniversary of 9/11, what is most deeply in my heart is to  say thank you to Canada. Imperfect, complex, beautiful, deeply tolerant, embracing adopted nation. Thank you for opening the door to me and so many others.
