Crash in East Vancouver kills 19-year-old

A 19-year-old woman has been killed and a 21-year-old man suffered serious injuries after a collision in East Vancouver. The incident is Vancouver's 18th traffic fatality of 2012.

Shortly before 11:00 p.m. on November 27, the two pedestrians were crossing north in the east crosswalk of Kingsway at Joyce Street when they were struck by an SUV driving east on Kingsway by a 32-year-old woman.

Members of the Vancouver Police Collision Investigation Unit are attempting to determine the cause of the collision. The SUV has been seized by police for mechanical testing.

Although it is still early in the investigation, indications are that the pedestrians were crossing on a green light.

No charges have been laid and the investigation is continuing. Police have not completed contacting the next-of kin and will not be releasing the names of the victims.

Anyone with information about the collision that has not yet spoken to police is asked to contact the VPD Collision Investigation Unit at 604-717-3012.
