Armed man keeping police at bay

A distraught man who is believed to have access to weapons  has kept police at bay since 11:30 p.m. last night, police say. VPD Emergency Response Team members and police negotiators have been on scene at an apartment building in the 3300 block of Kingsway Avenuesince 11:30 pm last night attempting to make contact with the man.

Kingwsay Avenue is closed to traffic at Joyce Street this morning due to the ongoing incident. Motorists and pedestrians are asked to avoid the area.

 Several neighouring suites in the building have been evacuated and police say they are taking every precaution to resolve the situation safely.
