Charges laid in Vancouver’s fifth homicide of 2011

A charge of manslaughter has been laid against 30-year-old Jermaine Anthony Carby in relation to   Vancouver’s 5th homicide of 2011.

50 year old Gerald David Haakmat had been found lying in the middle of Oppenheimer Park suffering from a stab wound in the early morning hours of June 1st. He was rushed to hospital where two days later he succumbed to his injuries. 

Following an investigation by the Vancouver Police Homicide Unit, Jermaine Carby was arrested on Friday, September 9th, in downtown Vancouverwithout incident. Carby has a lengthy criminal record involving violence and drugs. He remains in custody and his first court appearance is scheduled for Monday, September 12th at 2 p.m. in Provincial Court.
