Officer involved in fatal shooting in Surrey

At the request of the Surrey detachment of the RCMP, Vancouver Police have agreed to investigate a fatal police-involved shooting that occurred outside a house in the 3000 block of McBride Avenue in Surrey shortly before 2:30 p.m. this afternoon.

Around 2 p.m., Surrey RCMP officers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance after a woman called 9-1-1 asking for police. Two members arrived moments later and were confronted by a man. The man was shot by police and died a short time later outside the house.

VPD Major Crime investigators are on scene conducting the investigation. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the Vancouver Police Homicide Squad at 604-717-2500. Investigators expect to remain on scene into the night and residents of the neighbourhood can expect Vancouver Police officers to return tomorrow to try and locate more witnesses through a neighbourhood canvass.
