Vancouver records 2011’s fourth traffic-related fatality

A 79 year old Vancouver woman has succumbed to her injuries following an early morning collision in the 3100 block Grandview Highway.

 The woman was crossing northbound midblock shortly before 7 a.m. when she was struck by a garbage truck that was travelling westbound. The woman was rushed to hospital but later died of her injuries. The driver of the truck is cooperating with the investigation and speed and alcohol are not considered factors.

 This is Vancouver’s fourth traffic-related fatality of 2011, all of which have been pedestrians. The victim’s name is not being released.

 The investigation is ongoing and any witnesses who have not already spoken with police are asked to contact the Vancouver Police Collision Investigation Unit at 604-717-3012.
