Gunfire injures three in Gastown

Three women and a man were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries following a multiple shooting early Sunday morning in Gastown. Two of the victims have since been released however, two others remain in hospital for treatment of leg and arm injuries. Two men in their twenties have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Around 2:15 a.m., the group, who are all in their twenties, were fired upon as they stood on the north sidewalk of the 300 block of Water Street. Police were called, and paramedics responded quickly to treat the injured. A short time later two men were taken into custody by VPD Emergency Response Team members near the scene.

Three of the victims were taken to hospital by ambulance and a fourth walked into an area hospital on her own accord not long after. She was suffering from a gunshot wound to her wrist that will require surgery. More than a dozen witnesses were taken by bus to the police station for interviews.

At this early stage in the investigation it is unclear what precipitated the shooting or, if it was gang-related. The VPD Major Crime Robbery Assault Squad is investigating and anyone with information is asked to call 604-717-2541 or Crime Stoppers.
