Off-Duty RCMP Officer Charged with Impaired Driving

An off-duty RCMP officer assigned to E Division Headquarters was arrested on November 7th for impaired driving. A VPD officer watched this man urinate in the western-most Spanish Banks parking lot in the 4700 block of N.W. Marine Drive and then get into a vehicle and attempt to drive away.
The VPD officer stopped the vehicle and the man, who was identified as an RCMP officer, subsequently failed a roadside approved screening device.  As part of the investigation, the Vancouver Police obtained breath samples from the driver, which were determined to be over the legal limit of 0.08.
The RCMP officer is facing charges of driving while prohibited, impaired driving, and driving with a blood alcohol exceeding 80 milligrams of alcohol/100 millilitres of blood.
The officer was released and next appears in court on January 8th, 2010.
