Humans release 7-Song EP: Avec Mes Mecs

Peter Ricq of Humans once bought a Weird Al Yankovic tape because he liked Nirvana. Imagine the confusion when he discovered 'Smells Like Nirvana' and 'Bite Me' were the only references to Nirvana from Off the Deep End. His bandmate, Robbie Slade, was more of a Daft Punk Homework kind of guy.

Robbie says Humans' YouTube hit 'Bike Home' was supposed to feature himself and Ricq as police dispatched to handle a noise complaint, who end up partying. However, the order for custom puppets was already sent, so Peter got his way.

When asked what he thinks of the descriptor "folktronica", Robbie questions, "Is it really necessary just to save a few syllables?"

The roots-reggae-electro-folk duo is all over The Hype Machine, a popular social song-listings aggregator. Peter likes this kind of chart system because "it's worldwide; no one person decides who should be number one; it's reactionary, honest" and perhaps most importantly: " don't need to have money to give a heart."

Today marks the official release of Avec Mes Mecs, Humans' new 7-track EP. You can find it on iTunes, at Zulu Records or you can pick it up at one of their upcoming shows, like the one happening this Friday at 917 Main, aka'd as The Cobalt.

The EP is actually freaking awesome, some highlights being Avec Mes Mecs - a heavy hyper ballad, Mon Ton Ton - a song about Peter's French Uncle Pascal "cashing in on life" and, of course, Bike Home (video below).

When you listen, you may start dancing yourself, because "like a boa constrictor, you can feel it in your feet."
