30:LIVE is Vancouver indie music history-in-the-making

30:Live @ The Forum in Vancouver

Vancouver's independent music scene could be called "convoluted" in the past. Co-creators of 30:LIVE, Vancouver's newest indie music series, Dan Tanner (No, we're not related) and Leon Feldman are changing that, three bands at a time.

Fill up a polished-rustic venue like the Forum (formerly Buffalo Club, just North of the Granville Street Bridge) with hundreds of peaceful but ready-to-rock people and feature three high-quality, independent acts. What results is all about the music; no nonsense, just a bunch of hot people getting down to cool tunes.

Events happen every two weeks. Two Fridays in September featured bands such as Vespertine, Right, Free City Collective, Familia and Aardvark Robinson. If you haven't heard their names, it won't matter once you hear their music (appended at the bottom of this blog). The consistently high quality of 30:LIVE acts is stunning. These guys have an ear for great music.

As described on their Facebook page,

"30:Live's mission is to grow and unify the scattered music scene of Vancouver and to put on the most entertaining, purely local events this incredible city has to offer."

This week is 30:LIVE's pilot Thursday project, presenting Jasper Sloan Yip with Chimpanzebras and Kodiak Nightlife. The event page for Thursday October 7th, 2010 can be found here.

The Forum, established in 2010 is located at 1163 Granville St and welcomes music-lovers from all backgrounds.

Tickets are just $10 in advance, or $12 at the door.
