Ecstatic like an electric elastic: Colleen Brown to play Chan Centre for the Performing Arts
Colleen Brown is "Ecstatic like an ELECTRIC ELASTIC!!!". That's her tagline on Facebook, and listening to her music, you get what she means.
Brown's musical message has power and beauty. Motherly and warm, yet young and hip, her voice can be as comforting as mashed potatoes on a rainy day.
Fans of Carole King, Elliott Smith, Joni Mitchell and Hawksley Workman may find themselves connecting deeply with her ideologically strong-fisted tracks.
A resident of Edmonton, Alberta, Brown won the Alberta Emerging Artist Award and was a finalist in the CBC Song Quest.
She originally released her Foot In Heart LP in 2008 and re-released it earlier this year under a different label (Dead Daisy/ Outside Music).
An astute musician, Brown has opened or headlined for Hawksley Workman, Jim Cuddy, Frank Black, Gogol Bordello, Hey Rosetta, Dan Mangan, Hannah Georgas, Danny Michel, and Fred Eaglesmith.
'Love You Baby' is a vivacious revival of sound straight from the 1960s; guitar and piano-driven rock that would make the Beach Boys and Supertramp envious.
Brown will play at The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts with Crash Test Dummies on Saturday October 2nd, 2010 at 8:00pm as part of her Canadian tour.
