Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Party to play at Queen Elizabeth Theatre
If Middle Eastern music is one of your interests, you will be delighted to know Rahat Fateh Ali Khan & Party are performing in Vancouver at Queen Elizabeth Theatre on Sunday, April 25th.
Rahat was trained in Qawwali (a form of Sufi devotional music) by accompanying his uncle, Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, but Rahat is also very well known for recording on the soundtrack of many Bollywood films.
I rather enjoy this video (also embedded at the bottom of this article). Whether or not this is your type of music, Rahat certainly possesses great talent.
It is cool to expose yourself to different types of music and cultures. You just may learn something from your exploration.
When listening, notice the signature portamento (sliding or bending between two notes; "carried" in Italian) so common in the vocal lines.
