Cavalia under the white big top at Olympic Village
Cavalia is an extraordinary show blending breath-taking balancing acts, aerial acrobatics, and inspiring live music and vocals, with the beauty and grace of horses.
Tuesday night's premier performance opened to an enthusiastic sold out crowd. People of all ages filled the seats and the energy in the room grew incessantly as the show grew in complexity.
There is something invigorating about watching a show that takes place under a huge white tent.
The show opened with two playful horses running out onto the sand before us, jumping and tugging at the toy horses that lay placed about the set.
Other horses were introduced one by one with a variety of riders performing unbelievable feats of agility.
Two of the biggest highlights of the show were the trick riders and the solitary horse whisperer.
Horses running the length of the enclosure at full speed, with riders dangling off the sides of the horses drew gasps from the audience.
The horse whisperer drew raucous applause and a little laughter when one spirited horse decided to make up his own choreography.
The stage direction was immaculate and well thought out: quite reminiscent of Cirque du Soleil.
There was something for everyone in this show: the standing ovation at the end said that loud and clear.
After the show we were invited to get up close with the horse whisperer and two of her horses, then back to the stables to visit the rest of the horses up close. My favorite was the high spirited grey spotted horse with the pink nose: he seemed full of mischief which I find an amusing quality in just about anyone.
Cavalia runs from March 24 – April 17 at the White Big Top at Olympic village.
