Vegan food and drinks at Gorilla Food

Gorilla Food serves up organic, raw, vegan delights

The first time that I went to Gorilla Food it was a horrible grey day. I couldn’t believe I was about to descend below street level and head ‘underground’ for lunch – could it get anymore depressing?

When I walked in, I was pleasantly surprised by the warm, cozy, and inviting atmosphere that was Gorilla Food. The bright colours, beautiful artwork, rock wall, and well-placed tree trunks give the impression of being somewhere far, far away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Vancouver.

Daring to try something new, I let the friendly and helpful staff choose my lunch items. I was shocked by the amount of organic food set in front of me just a few minutes later (they’re really quick there!) for a $20 value:

  • Choco Gorilla Smoothie - almonds, cacao, bananas, hempseeds, date, coconut oil
  • Thai Fresh Wraps - three collard leaf wraps filled with a sprouted sunflower seed and veggie pate, sesame seasoned coleslaw and a side dip of raisin chutney
  • Jungle Coleslaw - A top ranking colorful cole-salad dressed in a smooth sweet avocado dressing
  • Dark Raw Chocolate Fudge

This is only a sample of the Gorilla Food menu; I would recommend the Thai Fresh Wraps for sure! They were incredibly “fresh” tasting, had a real crunch, and nicely balanced sweetness with a hint of heat. Loved them!

The Choco Gorilla Smoothie was a meal in itself! Banana and chocolate lovers beware – this will be your downfall, and I take no responsibility for your newfound addiction.

The Jungle Coleslaw was far creamier then I expected, considering it is vegan. Delicious again, and I am definitely considering throwing out my grandma’s mayo-laden coleslaw recipe for life!

It may not sound like a ton of food, but it was incredibly filling – and not in an “I just ate too much Thanksgiving dinner” kind of way. I felt energized and satisfied, and I didn’t find myself hungry again until many hours later. In fact, I was so full I opted to wrap up the square of Dark Raw Chocolate Fudge to take with me. I nibbled on it throughout the afternoon, and enjoyed every mouth-watering bite. Yum!

Is your mouth watering for some raw-food? Why not try vegan food and drinks at Gorilla Food.
