Men's fall fashion that works

Good quality chinos, an oxford button up and a chunky knit sweater- autumnal perfection!

Look, we all know that we're losing a valuable hour of daylight this weekend. It looks like the grey days and rainy weeks are finally settling in, but that's NO excuse for poor taste, regardless of what every cooperative sports apparel retailer might tell you!

Our choices here in Vancouver might be more limited than say, New York or London, but if you make a bit of an effort you too can look as swarthy and elegant as this guy the next time you step outside to walk your dog or run to the market.

So let's start with what works for Fall of 2010. Obviously we all want some great denim and khakis to start with, and what better place to visit than Canada's own, Joe Clothing. Recently opened on October 13th at 540 Granville Street across from the H & M, Joe Clothing offers some great basics at prices that simply can't be beat! Try on some tan cargos for just $24.00 or a great pair of dark denim for a measly $29.00 bucks. Yup! That's right - jeans for $29.00.

For that 'perfect' shirt that you can wear with anything, head over to the uber-chic Roden Gray. Located at 8 Water Street in Gastown, the owners continue to demonstrate their buying prowess yet again this season by selecting Vancouver's own, Wings and Horns label. Try the super soft brushed cotton plaids from $180.00. Or pick yourself up a Gitman Brother's Vintage striped oxford, $158.00 - these get better and better after every wash!

Spend a bit more time at Roden Gray and you'll fall in love with their knit cardigans. The Shawl Fisherman by Creep clothing will set you back $318.00 but it's a piece that you should be able to take to the old folks home with you.

Next, top off your news basics with a good, warm coat. Feel like splurging? Head to Harry Rosen and grab the fur lined black cafe jacket by Andrew Marc for $1, 198.00 or a sexy Parajumper from $865.00. On the more affordable side, try the Spiewak Naval Pea Coat from Urban Outfitters for only $198.00 or the Penfield Kasson Field Jacket with a cosy, red, buffalo check lining.

Last but not least you need some decent footwear. Nothing beats a pair of leather lace ups, and some of the best can be found at Urban Outfitters. Try the Bed Stu Creme in black or brown from only $128.00. You can wear these with anything, including your suit if that's part of your daily dress code. I also simply can't resist telling you about the hot new line of Sorrels now available at Holt Renfrew. There's the classic 1964 Pac Canvas in two-tone brown or all black for $140.00 or the incredible shearling lined Caribou Reserve Boot for $500.00. You could wait until December to pick these up, but I doubt they'll have any left so get on it!
