Not just for foodies: must-go events this weekend in Vancouver

Don't fret: there is more than cuisine-related events going on in Vancouver these days (believe it or not). How about checking out some of the best dancers in the world? Photo SnowBall Classic

If you manage to put down your finger-licking good mug of one of those delicious hot chocolates, we picked a few other events to tempt you with this weekend and beyond. Put on your finest toga and get ready to party like it’s 700 BC, find your new favorite beer (or even a new best friend), get ready for street food bonanza, or see the world’s best dancers - just to prove this city is not only about food. And if that's not enough to get you busy, mark your calendars for upcoming International Wine Festival! Have we mentioned the Poutine fest yet?

TOP PICKS

Battle of the Brush: Season 2 Episode 4 (Kelly’s Pick)
Jan 24 | 8 - 11PM | Vancouver Urban Winery | $15 adv/$20 door

A battle like no other, this art contest consists of four teams, each with two artists that have differing styles but who must set their differences aside and combine their skills, strokes and colors to complete a painting on the chosen theme - Electro Magnetic.
They only have 80 minutes to finish, so they need to use their artistic prowess and teamwork to create something that sets them apart from the rest. After all, it is the people’s vote that decides the winner. The colorful results will also be auctioned off along with paintings from previous competitions so bring some cash for that and for beer/wine.
I hate to go in to the competition biased but I did meet one of the competitors at Likemind and she was lovely. I won’t ruin it for you, but her name starts with M.

Jan 26 9-4am | eatART | $25

There will be some incredible musicians (including Hannah Epperson and DJ Ajay Bhattacharyya), aeriel performances, visual & artistic talents. Thanks Chelsea!

Toga Party! (Miraj’s pick)
January 26 | 8 PM | Astorino's Ballroom, 1739 Venables | $15/$20
