Atlantis Night Circus turns Vancouver FanClub into a nautical wonderland

Photos by Kelly J Marion @kellyjean247

Mermaids, octopi, jellyfish and a shark. Donning my sparkling, ocean-blue mini dress I entered a room of sailors and prepared myself for the weird and wonderful ways of Atlantis.

Vancouver FanClub turns into a nautical wonderland during Dine Out Vancouver's Atlantis Night Circus. The organizers (Myriam Steinberg, Tourism Vancouver and Vancouver FanClub) collaborated with Yelp Vancouver to host a preview party on the 15th, before opening to the public on the 17th for its inaugural event. If all goes well with ticket sales and popularity is evident this pilot event may be added to their regular programming.

The night unfolded with sassy burlesque, acrobatics by some very pliable men, lively music, aerial silk dancing and a theatrical experience by a Flirtations Officer and her partner in crime. Guests were encouraged to use their "passport" to adapt a personality and take part in the interactive theatre, but Vancouver's timidness was in the spotlight as there were few individuals that seemed to take part. That said, an impressive trio of woman including my friend Dianne Chow, took the stage competing for the title of the "leader" of Atlantis. The Nude Democratic Party trumped the others due to the candidate's gregarious personality. She was "crowned" on stage and the party ensued with dancing and plenty of Odd Society cocktails and Parallel 49's Ruby Ale.

The Atlantis Night Circus preview was entertaining, sexual, unusual and humorous; I can only imagine how the real deal will be. I’d recommend cabaret seating so that you’re right in the action and get a meal to boot.
