Great ways to spend the last week in August
Well, we hate to put a damper on things, but this is a friendly reminder that this will be the last weekend of August. Yep, we can't believe it either. Which means that we need to take advantage of the last of these great summer events. Here's some great picks to help you do just that.
Top Picks
Aug 27 | 11 AM - 7PM | VanDusen Garden | Free/$5 Donation
This Saturday is a Tibetan cultural event at Van Dusen Botanical Gardens featuring Tibetan music, dance, food, arts, handicrafts and more. This event is a fundraiser for the Tibetan Resettlement project, a humanitarian initiative to resettle one thousand Tibetan refugees in Canada. Aug 27 | 2:00pm | Inlet Dr. & Hastings St. in Burnaby | Free
A mass civil disobedience action has been called for the end of August in Washington DC to pressure the US government to stop approval of the Keystone XL Pipeline proposed to carry tar sands crude oil from northern Alberta to refineries in Illinois, Oklahoma and the U.S. Gulf Coast. At the same time, here in the Lower Mainland, we will spotlight and protest the tar sands pipeline in our own backyard -- in North Burnaby. Organized and endorsed by the Council of Canadians, Tanker Free BC, Streams of Justice, Stop the Pave and the Wilderness Committee.
