Well, we hate to put a damper on things, but this is a friendly reminder that this will be the last weekend of August. Yep, we can't believe it either. Which means that we need to take advantage of the last of these great summer events. Here's some great picks to help you do just that.

Top Picks

This Saturday is a Tibetan cultural event at Van Dusen Botanical Gardens featuring Tibetan music, dance, food, arts, handicrafts and more. Aug 26 | Electric Owl | Free
Wanna Dance? Well come join our dear friend DJ Pat Lok as he starts up his new night! He's got two DJs coming to town - one from Winnipeg DJ Cyclist  and the other from PEI, DJ Konflikt. And the Electric Owl is also a new venue in town, worth checking out - Still not sure? Check out the Funky Mixtape they made just to promote the event.

Aug 27 | 2:00pm | Inlet Dr. & Hastings St. in Burnaby | Free

A mass civil disobedience action has been called for the end of August in Washington DC to pressure the US government to stop approval of the Keystone XL Pipeline proposed to carry tar sands crude oil from northern Alberta to refineries in Illinois, Oklahoma and the U.S. Gulf Coast. At the same time, here in the Lower Mainland, we will spotlight and protest the tar sands pipeline in our own backyard -- in North Burnaby. Organized and endorsed by the Council of Canadians, Tanker Free BC, Streams of Justice, Stop the Pave and the Wilderness Committee.
