Café Rebelde: The Ugly Canadian
July 22 | 7:30-10:00pm | W2 Media Cafe | Free

This should be a fascinating evening. A combination of art, music and discussion focusing on “The Ugly Canadian: Our Pensions and the Impact of Canadian Mining Companies in Latin America.”  A 30 foot long painting, developed  through a participatory painting process facilitated by Colombo-Canadian artist Melanie Schambach, speaks the stories of 65 Guatemalan youth affected by Canadian corporation Goldmine Goldcorp. The painting now travels through the streets of Vancouver inviting the public to connect with these stories and reflect on our own accountability. After discussion and short film, there will be live music and theatre followed by a Latino infused music showcase with artists from El Salvador and USA. The after-party is free for Cafe attendees.
