Ghana, Uruguay advance. USA and South Korea sent home.

Luis Suarez celebrates after he scored the goal that sent Uruguay through to the quarter finals.
Uruguay beat out South Korea with a hard fought 2-1 victory that sent the Uruguayans to the quarter finals. Uruguay got off to a great start when Diego Forlan sent in a cross that the Korean goalkeeper failed to deal with giving Luis Suarez a wide open net to shoot at, and the Ajax man did not make a mistake. It was a horrible mistake by the Keeper who should have collected Forlan's cross easily. Uruguay dominated the for the entire of the first half and were deserving of their half time lead. The second half started much different as Uruguay were content to let South Korea attack as much as they wanted. South Korea's pressure payed off on a free kick that Uruguay failed to deal with defensively and Lee Chung Yong headed the ball into the back of the net tying the game at a goal each. Uruguay started to look threatning after South Korea scored. With Luis Suarez missing by inches just after South Korea scored. The winner came in the 80th minute from the foot of Suarez at the top of the box bending the ball expertly beyond South Korea's keeper. Uruguay celebration was unmatched as they will be going to a quarter final for the first time in a long time. They may be celebrating but they will get right back to preparing for their quarter final match tommorrow as they were not at their best today and will need to play better in the quarter finals. Man of the Match: Luis Suarez of Uruguay Ghana will meet Uruguay in the next round as the Black Stars beat the USA in an extra time thriller. The Americans got off to yet another slow start as they gave the ball away in the middle of the field, and Kevin Prince Boateng made the Americans pay with a well struck shot that found the bottom corner of the net. USA were poor at best in the first half as they were giving away the ball far to many times in the midfield and could have easily been trailing by two or three goals at the end of the first half. As usual though the Americans were a totally different team in the Second Half and deservingly awarded a penalty whened on his feat Striker Clint Dempsey was brought down in the box by Ghana defender Jonothan. Landon Donovan stepped up and hit the shot off the post and in tying the game at 1. The game went into Extra time. It was clear both teams were tiring as many players started to cramp up. Ghana started off the First half of extra time fantastically when Asamoah Gyan was sprung free and stayed on his feet perfectly before masterfully beating Tim Howard. USA never threatened Ghana in Extra time and for the second straight time were sent home by the Black Stars of Ghana. Man of the Match: Asamoah Gyan of Ghana Goal of the day: DS: Luis Suarez's winning goal against South Korea SR: Asamoah Gyan's winning goal against USA Player of the Day: DS: Luis Suarez of Uruguay SR: Luis Suarez of Uruguay
